Fundamentals of Private Health Exchanges
This powerpoint presentation was first given at the SPBA Fall Meeting in 2013. Due to SPBA member requests, we asked the speaker to present this again through a webinar.
One of the most popular strategies being used by the major consulting firms to control cost for their clients is Private Exchanges. These are a throwback to the golden age of flexible benefits, with employees provided a fixed contribution for healthcare benefits and the ability to shop among a wide range of plan choices. For many TPAs, market growth and interest in Private Exchanges is not welcome, as most offer an insured product portfolio. Estimates are that over 1 million covered employees have enrolled in Private Exchanges.
Learning Objectives
Participants in the Webinar should expect to gain a detailed understanding of Private Exchanges, including:
- General overview of the structure of Private Exchanges and how they work
- A market overview, including the various Private Exchanges currently offered
- An overview of Private Exchange technology.
- A discussion about the viability of self-insured Private Exchanges and/or the role of third-party administrators.
- Expectations for the next 12-24 months.
